About Hill Tribes Karen Silver from Thailand:

Raw silver is purchased in pellets which are then melted and hammered into thin sheets. These sheets are then shaped or printed into beads and pendants. Many pieces require the prints to be "drawn" on to the silver instead of stamped - such as butterflies and larger beads. Such pieces take more time and skill and are the hallmark of Karen Silver.

Karen silver was part of the King of Thailand's goals to help build an alternative income to the Hill Tribes. This includes Royal Projects such as Strawberry and Celery farms, Woodwork, and Silverwork.

The proceeds from the purchase of Karen Silver help aid the people by funding schools, building pipes for clean water, adding water tanks, help with farming land and etc.
